How To Prepare For A Boudoir Session

So you booked a boudoir session and now you are nervous because you have no idea what to expect. Relax and take a deep breath. I have written this little guide to help you feel prepared and calm those nerves.

Before The Session

Once your session is booked, it is time to start thinking about your vision. Is there a certain theme you're going for? Is there a certain color you look best in? Are there any props you just have to have in your pictures? Make sure that you let me know all the details of how you see the session going. As long as I know what you want, I can do my best to make it happen. I highly recommend that you get your hair and makeup professionally done. If you do, make sure to schedule your appointment early enough that you won't be late to the session.

What To Wear

I know deciding what to wear can be really stressful. The outfits that you choose should make you feel sexy, but also be comfortable. The basics are usually: bra and panty sets, corsets, garters and stockings. An oversized sweater and/or your man's shirt (bonus points if it's button up) can be a more casual and sexy look. A pair of killer shoes can really make a look stand out. You won't be walking in them, so wear those amazing heels you've kept in the back of the closet. If you prefer no shoes, that's okay too. Bare feet can be more organic and natural. Simple earrings and/or a necklace can be worn, but large pieces of jewelry may be hard to deal with when moving around and changing positions. I also recommend a nice robe. A robe can be used for pictures and is also nice to have in between sets. If you have a small cup size, bring a bra that has lace on the top of it. The lace can make you look a cup size bigger in the pictures. Lastly, don't bring anything that is made out of shiny fabric. Shiny fabric doesn't photograph well.

Flatter your body type:

Pear - This body type is when your torso is fuller on the bottom than it is on the top. Bustiers, corsets and corset dresses can really flatter this body type by drawing attention away from the bottom of the torso and accentuating the top.

Apple - If this is your body type, you are broader on top. Show off the "girls" in low cut, strapless and v-neck outfits. Babydolls can be a great choice since they show off up top and are nice and flowing on the waistline.

Hourglass - This type is equally curvy on top and bottom, with a small waist. Teddies, chemises, corsets and any form fitting outfits can really show off this body type.

Rectangle - If you have a pretty straight figure and not many curves, this is probably your type. To create the illusion of more curves, you can wear a push-up bra, boned corsets and waist cinchers.

Getting Ready

Skin

If you exfoliate, make sure you do it 2-3 days before your session. This gives your skin time to recover from any irritation or redness. The same goes for waxing and/or shaving, especially if you have sensitive skin. Please refrain from tanning for at least a week before your session. You don't want to chance a burn or your skin having an orange tint. If you don't get a manicure/pedicure, at least put a clear coat of polish on your nails.

Hair

Please don't make any drastic changes to your hair close to your session. Hair color/style will not be changed in the pictures if your new hair color/style goes wrong. I do recommend getting your hair trimmed a week before the session and do a deep conditioning treatment a day or two before. This will give your hair a healthy shine.

Clothing/Accessories

Make sure to have your outfits and all of your accessories ready to go a couple of days before the session. You don't want to be scrambling to get things together and forget something. Also, make sure you hang your outfits to avoid wrinkles.

Day Of The Session

Get a good night's rest the night before to avoid bags and puffiness under the eyes. Make sure to hydrate your skin before the session by using a good moisturizer. This will give your skin a healthy glow and also help your foundation go on smoother. Don't wear tight clothing to the session, even socks. This can cause unsightly red marks on the skin. Bring your lipstick, powder and makeup brush. These items can make for some sexy "getting ready" photos.

It is completely normal to be nervous the day of your session. We'll take the first few minutes to get you comfortable in front of the camera and boosting your confidence. I will help guide you with posing, so there is no need to be afraid of not knowing what to do.

*Don't worry...You are beautiful and you are going to rock this session!*
